MOMOTOMBO-SF: Igniting the Stage with Explosive Latin Rock Energy! 🔥
Get ready to feel the heat with MOMOTOMBO-SF, a dynamic 10-piece powerhouse of San Francisco Bay Area music legends, featuring iconic alumni from Malo and Santana! This electrifying ensemble delivers the soul-stirring sounds of these trailblazing San Francisco bands, blending the fiery interplay of Latin Jazz and Rock with pulsating Latin rhythms and Afro-Cuban beats. Their performances transport you back to the psychedelic, boundary-breaking days of Winterland and The Fillmore in San Francisco, where Latin Rock music was born.
Leading the charge is Leo Rosales, a legendary original member of Malo, alongside Gabriel Manzo, the virtuoso lead guitarist who commanded stages with Malo for over 32 years. Together, they craft an authentic, high-octane Latin Rock experience that erupts with passion and precision. The band’s name, MOMOTOMBO-SF, pays homage to the fiery track “Momotombo” from Malo’s 1972 album Malo Dos—and to the active volcano on the shores of Lago de Managua, Nicaragua. The “SF” stands for San Francisco, the birthplace of the explosive Latin Rock revolution.
MOMOTOMBO-SF’s members are no strangers to greatness, having shared stages with icons like Santana, Jorge Santana Band, Sly & the Family Stone, Taj Mahal, Herbie Hancock, Tito Puente, Los Lobos, Pete Escovedo, Bo Diddley, and many more. Their concerts are a celebration of this rich legacy, delivering unforgettable performances that pulse with raw energy and soul.
MOMOTOMBO-SF: Experience the Fire! 🔥 Join the eruption and let the rhythms of Latin Rock set your spirit ablaze!

Ryan Walters ( my cuz) (Hawaiian Acres Dirt Band) was my first Harmonica Teacher. In the Mid 80's: I helped found the Chico Blues Society with my Mentor and Master Harmonica Player and Blue Rock'it recording artist Ralph Shine. We shared a love of vintage music equipment and he schooled me on the harmonica players...both alive and past....We produced Harmonica Blowouts for some of the greatest players of our time...and up and coming players like me and my Cousins Ross and Ryan Walters . Ralph passed and left me with a strong desire to continue my quest for the Harmonica knowledge and brotherhood. Andy Santana has to be mentioned as a great singer, player and supporter.
Eventually, I became side man to the Great Matt Brewer ( with Vinnie on Bass). He and Rich Felix ( highway one band) taught me to respect the masters, and I learned first hand about the music and the Business. I played every week at the Rose Room, Harbor Bar, Miramar Beach Inn, San Benito House, San Gregorio General Store, Grant and Green, and became welcome as a back up vocalist who owned a good PA and knew how to play Harmonica.
